Formation of Regional Development Australia
On 20th March 2008 the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP announced in Federal Parliament that the Government had agreed to the establishment of Regional Development Australia (RDA), based on the Area Consultative Committee (ACC) network.
As a next step, the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development and Northern Australia, the Hon Gary Gray MP is meeting with the RDA Interim Board (formerly the ACC Chairs Reference Group) to discuss the transition to RDA.
In the coming months a new Charter and Role for the former ACCs will be agreed with the intention that the new operation will commence on 1 January 2009. In the meantime, ACCs will be consulting in their regions on such things as the role and scope of RDA, linkages with other levels of government, governance matters, membership, appointment policies and processes, boundaries and number of RDA committees.
